More than 70 people arrived at Our Savior Lutheran Church for a free Christmas Day dinner making new friends and ending the meal with the singing of Christmas carols.

It was my second time attending the special meal that’s free to the community with food donated by Faith in Action. And, many attendees brought dishes and desserts to pass and share. There were lots of volunteer elves to make it all come together.

Ken Toney has been the chief chef for more years than anyone can remember he had lots of help this year in both the kitchen and the dining room.

“I’m like a lot of folks – doing Christmas with family on another day, so I just love to come in here and put this on.” he said previously. “It’s my home church and I know where everything is, so we have 60-70 people come in and it’s a pretty good time.”

“We wanted to give back to the community,” one volunteer family said, surprised that they were invited to feast before they helped with kitchen clean-up.From the yummy cornbread and traditional turkey, stuffing and mashed potatoes were added peas and yams and squash and vegetables. A whole table filled with something for everyone.

And that was before they found all the goodies on the dessert table.
