It was a busy scene Tuesday morning, Aug. 23, at the Chelsea Community Fair barn where entries for both the rabbit show and poultry show gathered.

Superintendents Cathie Mason and her daughter Channon Mason, respectively, were on hand for the judging.

10-year-old Lilyana Charlton was there with her 4-year-old Holland Lop rabbit Mittens. Lilyana’s grandmother Cindy Charlton was proudly taking photos during the judging.

“It’s a good thing for any kid to have something to take care of and learn about,” said Cindy Charlton, who said that Lilyana used to read to her rabbit.

Kayleigh Harris chose a new breed of rabbit to show this year, a four-month-old Mini Rex named Smokey. Smokey keeps her busy checking her food and water, emptying her litter box, and cuddling with her daily.

“Kayleigh loves the fun of having rabbits, and she gets to learn new breeds and see all the different kind of rabbits,” said her mom, Melissa Harris.
