Chestnut. Paint. Black. Dun. Bay.
The horses were as colorful as their rider’s attire at the first day of the 62nd Annual Chelsea Community Fair horse show held Aug. 17-18.
The equestrians came from Dexter, Chelsea, Manchester, and Jackson and rode horses with names such as Malibu, Oscar, Dun Got It Goin On, Dunni, Tucker and Jack’s Hard Apple Cider. Saturday was English Day and Sunday is Western Day.
Beginning with the English showmanship classes, they moved to the pleasure horse, hunt seat equitation, even bareback equitation.
The English Showmanship champion, Emily Weaver, 17, of Dexter, showed Dunni, who was 18 years old to the title, while Dexter Equestrian Team teammate Leah Schwartzenberger was reserve champion. She showed Chilly, a horse she’s only been riding for 4 months.
Both ladies have shown at the Chelsea Community Fair before.
Weaver said she’d been showing at this show since she was quite young.
For Schwartzenberger, it was her last time showing at Chelsea because of her age as she head to Michigan State University and will be a member of the MSU Western Equestrian Team.
Also among those competing were:
- Talena Roberson, Chelsea High School, on Malibu and Gabe.
- MacKenzie Smith, a student at Washtenaw Community College, riding Pride of Vengeance and Oscar
- Lexi Crocker of Jackson on Dun Got It Goin On
- Julia Jackson of Manchester and Tucker
- Rheana Grudzinki of Chelsea and Woodsy
- Rachel Geer of Chelsea riding Robin’s Little Wing
- Gabrielle Bowles of Chelsea on Nellie
- Joseph Drudzinski of Chelsea on Nellie
- Peyton Skeans of Chelsea riding Jack’s Hard Apple Cider
Thank you SO much Lisa for including such GREAT pictures of the riders. We have a spectacular day on Saturday and Sunday. We even made it though that rain storm to a beautiful Sunday afternoon!
My niece is Gabby Bowles and it was awesome watching all of the kids ride! They were all amazing!
