And so it begins, Chelsea.

Today is entry day at the 82nd annual Chelsea Community Fair and thousands of items will be arriving in the green barn from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Folks who haven’t seen each other all summer will cross paths and the greatest time of the year starts to unfold as the fairgrounds comes alive with activity for the best week all year in the city.

Please be kind to the volunteer superintendents as they do their best to assist everyone in correctly entering their fruits and vegetables, antiques, baked and canned goods, flowers, hobbies, crafts, photography, machine sewing and needlework.

Once you’ve finished entering, remember there’s a horse show taking place and the equestrians would love to have spectators. In the Main Arena you can find a tractor pull and enjoy something tasty from the Kiwanis concession stand.

And after you’re safely back at home, the real work begins for the superintendents who must double check that everything is entered properly and displayed for judges. Some of the judging takes place Sunday night, while the bulk of it takes place on Monday, which is why the barn’s closed.

In case you were wondering, photography, floraculture and some of the baked goods are judged on Sunday night, while the remainder of the exhibits are judged throughout the day on Monday.
