Chelsea’s newest Eagle Scout Isaac Stoker was honored with a proclamation for his more than 11 years in scouting at the Sept. 21 Chelsea City Council Zoom meeting.
He’s the first to receive this honor virtually from the City Council (because of the governor’s public meeting restrictions) and was honored for his 31 merit badges as well as his service project, which included building outdoor benches at Beach Middle School that will serve as an outdoor classroom.
Stoker said he’s been involved in scouting since he was in first grade and his mother, Kelly Stoker, said she and Isaac’s father, Matt, were really proud of him and the lofty goals he set for himself to become an Eagle Scout, which is the highest rank in scouting.
She said only about one in 100 boy scouts attain this level and his project took about a year and a half from concept to completion.

During the council business portion of the meeting, the City Council approved the proposal submitted by attorney Bruce Judge a member of the Whistleblower Law Collaborative, LLC to review a complaint brought against the entire Chelsea Police Department by William Ruddock for its actions during a July 31 demonstration. The estimated cost for the review of the complaint is $4,000.
Council Member Charles Wiseley voted against the action, stating that he did so when it was originally voted upon as he did not think hiring an outside firm was necessary to review the complaint.

The City Council also set a date for a work session on Wednesday, Oct. 14 beginning at 7 p.m. during there will be an update on the city staff’s progress on the 2020-2021 goals and objectives (set in February 2020). Also included in this work session will be a review of the City Council’s liaisons and delegates to boards and committees. It’s expected that with the addition of a new Council Member, one or more of the Council Members assigned to the various committees will change.
The City Council also unanimously approved an additional $8,500 to retain the consulting firm of Mckenna to expand its scope of services to include the city’s landscape standards into the city’s new zoning ordinance.
Chelsea Police Chief Ed Toth reported that the department had 215 calls for service in August. There were 17 traffic crashes, 17 traffic stops and 7 citations were issued. The department is investigating 44 cases in August including 11 new ones. He also reported that the June 25 incident in Pierce Park was still under review in the prosecutor’s office, which is three months behind. He said the report is 148 pages and included multiple CD’s.
I do not live in the city however I am a firm supporter of Ed Toth and his officers. I am confused as to why you pay 4k prior to receiving the Prosecutor’s report. It appears that you are trying to undercut your police department.
