Chelsea Education Foundation grant deadline approaching

Attention all non-profit, tax exempt and/or charitable organizations, the Chelsea Education Foundation is currently accepting grant applications to fund local educational opportunities.

According to the group’s mission statement, the foundation “provides funding for a wide spectrum of educational activities to benefit the residents of Chelsea.”

It is a non-profit, tax-exempt organization that was begun in 1990, “to provide a link between school, business and community to help strengthen Chelsea’s future,” according to the website.

Contributions to CEF are given back to the Chelsea community through scholarships for area college students, grants to teachers and others with great ideas, and sponsorship of community forums on important topics, according to the organization’s website.

In the past year, the foundation has invested more than $50,000 in scholarships.

Members of the board are comprised of people in the business community, Board of Education, school administration and staff, and area residents.

Past grant recipients include elementary, middle and high school programs, the Chelsea Senior Center, Chelsea District Library and One World One Family.

Keep in mind that CEF does not typically fund annual giving or capital campaigns, computer hardware, individuals, loans, substitute teacher pay, normal operating expenses, religious or sectarian purposes, advocacy or political purposes, annual meetings or food items.

To apply for a grant, you must register with the Chelsea Education Foundation website at www.chelseaeducationfoundation.org. Once you have registered, you may then complete the grant application on CEF’s website, and the deadline to apply is Sept. 28.

Here are some of the grant guidelines:

CEF gives highest priority and consideration to projects and programs that benefit many people in the community, increase access to educational resources and strengthen collaboration between applying organizations and the private sector.

Upon completion of the project or program, each grant recipient must complete and return a grant performance review. Future grant consideration may be jeopardized if all requirements are not met.

New grant cycles begin in September of each year and funds are awarded in late October.

Grant criteria and CEF’s current budget are compared to the benefits of each project or program request.
