The Chelsea Community Fair Kitchen is happy to once again join forces with Chelsea’s Zero Waste Coalition. Our first year was so successful, that this coming August our plans are to extend our compostable products and to increase our recycling efforts.
The Fair Kitchen is like all busy households. The busier it is; the easier it is to throw everything in the trash and move on to the next task. But after making such an effort last year, and seeing how much smaller the trash pile was at the end of day due to recycling, using compostable products, returning returnables, and composting, we knew we had to keep it going.
It was very satisfying to divert so much from our landfill and to educate our many customers. You never know when you add a new element to an already very large project how things will turn out.
Continued thanks go to the Chelsea Fair Board of Directors for always supporting the Fair Kitchen and thank you to Chelsea’s Zero Waste Coalition for reaching out to me. Yes, I admit, my friend Alex Moore reached out and asked if it was a possibility for some recycling and composting to happen at the Fair Kitchen. Although we had always recycled in the kitchen area, we had never done any in the dining room area.
I think we were both pleasantly surprised how well it all went. So here we are a year later meeting and asking how we can improve.
Please volunteer
Now like all great projects, the Chelsea Fair Kitchen needs volunteers. We are open for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. The first volunteers come in at 5 am to get breakfast started. Desserts are baking by 9 am.
There are smaller and larger jobs available starting very early in the morning till after we close at 8:30 pm when everything needs to be washed and restocked.
Please reach out so this wonderful event can continue. I have met some terrific people through the years, I hope to meet you.
