Chelsea Field Hockey’s Oct. 5 Play4TheCure game and Oct. 10 senior night concluded the regular season for the varsity team.

Every season, Chelsea Field Hockey (CFH) athletes participate in a “pink out” game to unify in the fight against all cancers. The varsity team hosted Ann Arbor Huron, last year’s state champion, in an exciting, spirited game with a lot of shots on goal by both teams. Huron prevailed, 3 to 1. Freshman Makayla Kegerreis earned the goal for CFH on a corner penalty. The assist was by sophomore Grace Lane.

Preceding the varsity game was the Beach Middle School game. The 42-player team hosted Greenhills School of Ann Arbor in a lively, fast-action game on the pitch.

Chelsea Field Hockey’s annual Play4TheCure campaign and games raised $3,926 for cancer research with the help of the field hockey community. By utilizing The National Foundation for Cancer Research’s Play4TheCure platform, CFH and its supporters are ensured that all money raised goes to research in the laboratories.

On Oct. 10, CFH celebrated seniors Kyle Bragg, Alex Chalogianis, Payton Doan and Jordan Holton. The varsity team hosted Marian, a team near the top of the standings all season. The torrential downpour provided a challenging scenario for both teams.

Chelsea Field Hockey won 1-0 with a poetic pass from junior Molly Latimer to sophomore Maddie Vogel for the goal.

“Senior night was a soggy action-packed game,” says Varsity Coach Leslie Fry. “The CHS team did a fantastic job of supporting each other to attack the opponent’s goal cage. We are very proud of our teamwork.”

CFH will travel on Friday, Oct. 19, for a 5 p.m. game in the first round of the Michigan High School Field Hockey Association’s State Tournament.
