Chelsea Freshmen Football loses to Portland 32-14

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Chris Orlandi for the information in this story.)

This week, the Portland Raiders beat Chelsea’s freshmen football team, 32-14.

Ethan Collins forced and recovered a fumble on Portland’s opening drive. Portland scored on its 2nd possession and Chelsea tied the game up near the end of the 1st quarter when Nate Christian made a leaping catch on a pass from Jack Orlandi.

The defense struggled to stop Portland’s running game for most of the evening. Indy Hurst and Drew Weinberg did recover fumbles.

The offense also struggled although Ethan Povlich scored on a long TD run late in the game.

Portland was outstanding. They were well coached and outplayed us, coach Chris Orlandi said. “I thought we fought hard throughout and I liked that our guys were really supporting each other. I thought Indy Hurst and Kyle Jahr turned in very solid performances.

We were sad to lose TE Gavin Busch for the remainder of the season to a leg injury. He will be tough for us to replace going forward.

This week, Chelsea plays Carlson High School at home on Thursday at 4:30.
