The Chelsea Area Garden Club and Chelsea District Library will co-sponsor a humorous talk titled “Confessions of a Plant-Crazed Garden Nerd” on Oct. 8 from 7-8:30 p.m. in the McKune Room at the library.

Each autumn, the garden club sponsors a public lecture to promote gardening in the Chelsea area.

Joseph Tychonievich, nursery manager at Arrowhead Alpines in Fowlerville, and author of the book “Plant Breeding for the Home Gardener: How to Create Unique Vegetables and Flowers,” will share the joys and trials of being obsessed with plants.

Tychonievich has been breeding plants since he was in college.

In the introduction to his book, he writes: “Plant breeding is easy. Under the right conditions, in fact, you can hardly help but breed new varieties. Just nature and a little careful weeding will all but do it for you.”

“This event should be a great blend of humor and horticulture,” said Sara Wedell, head of adult services at the library, who added, “We are excited to bring Joseph to Chelsea, and it has been a wonderful opportunity to work closely with the Chelsea Area Garden Club.”

To register, call the library at 475-8732, ext. 219, or go online here and click on the calendar tab, or stop by the library information desk.
