Chelsea girls swim and dive currently 10-3, 4-1 in SEC

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Andrew Thomson for the information in this story.)

On Oct. 10, the CHS girls swim and dive team hosted the Adrian Maples for another SEC White Division show down.

The Bulldogs (10-3, 4-1 SEC White) were just too much for a young Maples squad, winning the meet by a final score of 143-40.

“We were able to put some swimmers in different spots that they haven’t swam in yet this season and get some times,” said head coach Andrew Thomson. “This allowed some of our girls who usually swim to shake it up a bit as we head into Dexter next week, and also give some of the other athletes a chance to shine, having them in the middle of the pool for races.”

The Bulldogs started the meet by sweeping the 200 medley relay.  The A team of Ella Girard, Abby Robbins, Olivia Olk and Bella Turner touched in 1:57.40, while Kauri Fields, Jessica Neff, Rory Krause and Amanda Dosey finished in 2:09.29 and Hannah Harmes, Leah Burgess, Fiona Stoker and Maddy Christie finished in 2:25.76.

Olivia Prodin led the 200 freestyle, finishing in 2:09.68, while her teammates touched second and third, with Riley Monahan finishing in 2:14.16 and Katie Leissner in 2:15.02.

In the 200 IM Chelsea Paddock finished first overall in 2:33.43 and Morgan DeYoe touched second in 2:39.61.

Amanda Dosey led the charge in the 50 freestyle, winning the event in 28.52. Teammate Neff was right behind her with a 29.82 and Leah Burgess finished third in 30.62.

The Bulldog divers were in mid-season form, with Savannah Fisk posting a season-best 202.50 and a second-place finish. Melina Almhiemid was back on the board and finished third with 178.75 points and Molly Jacobson placed fourth with 166.70 points.

In the 100 butterfly, Robbins touched first with a 1:06.20, while Stoker was second with a 1:20.13 and Dakota Drew placed third in 1:25.39.

The 100 freestyle saw Rory Krause take first place with a 1:02.45, while Elle Mahalak was second in 1:07.56 and Kayla Jones touched third with a time of 1:07.68.

The 500 freestyle was led by Olk with a 5:40.94, while Fields touched in 6:02.41 and Maddy Christie placed fifth with a time of 6:58.44.

The Bulldogs again swept the 200 freestyle relay with the team of Monahan, Leissner, Drew and Olk finishing in 1:56.94 while DeYoe, Robbins, Isabella Treglia and Jones touched in 1:57.48 and Mahalak, Paddock, Stoker, and Prodin ended with 1:58.74.

The 100 backstroke was led by Turner with a time of 1:02.72, with Harmes finishing in 1:16.10 and Treglia posting a 1:36.38.

Neff led the Bulldogs in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:19.29, with Burgess close behind with a 1:25.38 and Amelia Christie completing the sweep with a 1:26.44.The final event of the meet saw the Bulldogs sweep the event one last time. The A relay team of Prodin, Fields, Monahahn and Turner finished in 4:03.62, with the C team of Krause, Maddy Christie, Girard and DeYoe touching second with a 4:27.46 and the B team of Drew, Leissner, Paddock and Amelia Christie finishing third in 4:30.30.

“We are at that mid-season point where we start to see fatigue, sickness, and just a sort of run-down feeling,” said Thomson.

“The girls work hard in practice every day, and our schedule the rest of the way out this season will be a real help to keep the team on track and motivated for the conference and state meets.”

The team travels Oct. 17 to Dexter for a SEC White Division showdown.
