The Chelsea girls track and field team finished fourth out of 14 teams at the Regional Meet held at Milan High School on Friday, May 17.
Tecumseh won the regional meet with 88 points, while the runner-up was Grosse Ille with 84.5 points. Milan finished third with 69 points and Chelsea followed with 62 points.
“We did our best and placed close to our seeds in most events as we were projected to finish fourth as a team based on the regional seeds,” said coach Loren Thorburn.
The Bulldog girls posted seven personal records (PR) or season-best times at the meet.
“Through the season, the girls worked hard all season to improve and dealt very well with the cooler, wetter conditions that characterized our season. I appreciate their positive attitude, team support they showed each other, and their general flexibility with situations. This is a special group of athletes,” Thorburn said.
Jordan Holton placed second in the discus with a throw of 104′ 5″ (a season-best).
The 4x400m relay (comprised of Makayla Kegerreis, Kendra Patterson, Riley Thorburn and Myranda Montoye) made it to the state meet just beating out Grosse Ille for second place in last 30 meters. They ran a season-best time of 4:14.56.
Reagan Lehman place 3rd in the pole vault with a height of 9′ 3″ (a PR) and met state qualifying standard in the event.
Breanne Black placed fourth in the pole vault and just missed the state qualifying standard (9′ 3″) on her third attempt.
Riley Davis placed 3rd in the high jump with a height of 5′ 0″.
The 4x800m relay team (comprised of Riley Thorburn, Natalie Davies, Morgan Kurth, Allison Hause) placed fourth with a time of 10:17.53 (a season-best time). The 4x200m relay team (that consisted of Kasey Matusik, Myranda Montoye, Reagan Lehman, and Maykala Kegerreis) placed 8th with a season-best time of 1:52.04.
Kendra Patterson had a very good day. She placed 7th in the 100m hurdles with a time of 17.16 (near PR) and placed 5th in the 300m hurdles with a time of 50.63 (a PR).
Natalie Davies placed 5th in the 3200m run with a time of 12:14.53, while Morgan Kurth placed 8th in the event with a time of 12:22.15. (Both girls came within seconds of their PRs.)

Myranda Montoye placed 5th in the 400m dash with a season-best time of 62.4.
The team’s next meet is the Larry Steeb Meet of Champions held at Dexter High School on Tuesday, May 28.
This meet is a very selective meet and requires athletes to make certain standards prior to competition, and a small group will represent Chelsea.
On Saturday, June 1, the team will conclude its season by taking six athletes to compete at the D2 State Meet, which will be held at Zeeland East/West High School Stadium.2019 Girl's Regional Meet - Sheet1-3
