Chelsea girls track brings home two wins

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Loren Thorburn for the information in this story.)

The Chelsea girls track team came away with two wins on Tuesday night at Adrian High School.

The Bulldogs beat Adrian 94-42 and downed Tecumseh 71-66.

“We had more depth overall than Adrian, which resulted in a high score,” said coach Loren Thorburn.

In the other portion of the double dual, the coach said, the victory came down to the 4x400m relay, which is at the end of the meet.

Ailish Joyce ran a strong anchor leg in the 4x400m relay holding off Tecumseh’s final runner to help secure the win.

“It was definitely a team effort with Chelsea scoring in 16 out of the 17 events,” Thorburn said, adding, “We could not have gotten this win without the help of many athletes.”

He cited Molly Mannor earning 3rd place in 100m hurdles and 2nd in the 300m hurdles after coming from a soccer game in Chelsea.

High jumping for the first time in a meet, freshman Makayla Kegerreis earned 3rd place.

Myranda Montoye was the MVP of the meet by helping to secure top finishes in four of her events (4x200m relay, 400m, 200m, and 4x400m relay).

“Overall, the team pulled together and came up with the wins. Looking forward to our future meets,” Thorburn said.
