The Chelsea Girl’s Track and Field team won the Whitmore Lake Relays on Friday, April 12, scoring 110 total points in the meet, edging Macomb Lutheran North by 3 points to win.

In this relays style meet, there were some non-traditional events that many athletes stepped into and scored valuable points to achieve this team victory, said Head Coach Shane Rodriguez.

Freshman pole vaulter Katherine Moise ran in the 4 x 1600 and helped her relay team finish second. She’d never run a mile in a meet before, Rodriguez said.

Likewise, senior captain Megan Lowe filled in on the second-place shuttle hurdle relay team, and it was her first ever hurdle event.

Sophomore Maria Osentoski had a lifetime best in the high jump.

“I could go on, but the biggest theme is that our team responded to adversity, stepped up, filled in spots, and competed in the cold conditions to come out on top,” the coach said, adding, “I could not be more proud of the effort.”

Next week, the team travels to Adrian to compete in a dual meet and on Friday, April 19, Chelsea will host the revival of the Chelsea Relays.
