On a very wet morning, after a 2-hour delay for standing water on the greens, the Chelsea Golf Team hosted 15 teams on May 15 at the Chelsea Invitational on a very soggy Reddeman Farms Golf Course.

“We had a number of teams that had traveled from over an hour away, so we were very pleased and fortunate to get it in,” said coach Joe Ewald.

Chelsea’s gold team finished eighth with a score of 347, and Chelsea’s blue team finished 12th with a score of 377.

Scoring for Chelsea Gold was Zach McKinley with an 82, JJ Duncan and Sean Lyons shot a pair of 88s and Jacob Hauser had an 89.

Leading the way for the blue team was Kurt Jolly with an 85, Will Stubbs shot 92, Preston Ewald with a 98 and Carter Engler had a 102.

The score of 347 was the best of the year so far, the coach said, and not too bad considering there was water everywhere.

“Dealing with casual water can be a headache, but with soft greens, and the wind down, I was hoping we might dip in to the high 330s,” he said.

The tournament was won by Ann Arbor Skyline, just edging out Grand Ledge by a score of 305 to 306. “If things go well at districts and regionals, both of those teams could compete at the state level,” Ewald said.
