The Chelsea and Dexter Golf Teams got together Monday afternoon at Inverness Country Club to end the season with the annual Chelsea-Dexter Ryder Cup.

Chelsea won the match with a score of 7-1/2 to 4-1/2.

“It felt great to get the win as Dexter has held the cup since the competition began 4 years ago,” said coach Joe Ewald.

“The match played out just about exactly as I expected,” Ewald said. “We see each other during the season often enough to get a pretty good idea of the other team.  I thought the top half of the order would all be very good matches, and assumed the scoring would be pretty even, but felt we should gain the advantage with our depth in the back half of the order.”

Ewald called it “a great event as we had more spectators then you would typically see at the State Tournament.”

He said they enlisted a number of 8th, 7th, and 6th graders to caddy and carry scoreboards.

The teams got caught in a downpour with about 3 holes to play, but it didn’t dampen the spirit of the competition…just all part of spring golf, Ewald said.

Getting wins for Chelsea were JJ Duncan, Michael Purdy, Sean Lyons, Will Stubbs, Kurt Jolly, Preston Ewald, and Daniel Klink.

Getting wins for Dexter were Jeff Wicks, Cam Lafontaine, Michael Dezeeuw, and Brenden ChalouJacob Hauser (Chelsea) and Kyle Kuhns (Dexter) halved their match.
