Chelsea High School honors its fall all state athletes

On Tuesday night, Feb. 12, at halftime of the boys’ basketball game, Chelsea High School all state athletes were honored “for their commitment to and excellence in sport.”

Chelsea High School Athletic Director Jeremy Barkey said cross country runner Austin Horn, holds Chelsea High School’s fifth best all-time 5K time and Jacob Stubbs owns the seventh best all-time 5K time. Both runners finished in under 16 minutes in the 5K at the state meet.

Maggie Cole, a field hockey player, was honored for her D3 1st team honors and Meghan Cole, also a field hockey player, was honored for her D3 honorable mention award. Both ladies contributed to the Whippets 2012 D3 championship season.

Ryan Hilbert, a soccer player, finished his season with D2 second team honors.

Gabby Triveline, a golfer, earned honorable mention all state honors. She earned this acclaim all four years of her high school career.

Mike Steinhauer, football player, was named to the Detroit Free Press Dream Team, and Berkley Edwards, also a football player, received AP 1st Team honors. Both signed letters of intent for Division 1 football programs and contributed to two SEC White Championship teams during their football careers at the high school.

“Congratulations to you and your families on these honors as they are evidence of your skill and selfless dedication not just to yourselves, but also to the teams and school that you represent. We, as a community, are proud of each one of you,” Barkey said.
