Chelsea Human Rights Commission Planning Civility Month Activities

By Lisa Carolin

Chelsea Human Rights Commission members approved a motion to initiate planning for Civility Month in November of 2023 and also approved drafting a letter inviting organizations to participate.

That occurred at the HRC’s July 5 meeting. Some of the ideas talked about for Civility Month include choosing a book as part of a Chelsea Community Reads project and moderating panel discussions.

HRC members also talked about priorities for its own page when the City of Chelsea updates its website.

City Clerk Lyn Sebestyen talked to HRC members about what to expect when the website is updated. She will help lay it out.

Also discussed at the meeting was making the existing HRC brochure available to more people in Chelsea. Members agreed to distribute the brochures to local Realtors’ offices, the Chelsea Area Chamber of Commerce, the Chelsea Area District Library, the Chelsea Police Station, and city offices.

There is currently an opening on the HRC. For more information, go to https://www.city-chelsea.org/boards-committees-commissions.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the HRC is on Aug. 2 at 7 p.m.
