Chelsea Kiwanis Club Hears from Chelsea Athletic Director

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Bob Milbrodt for the information in this story.)

Last Monday, the Chelsea Kiwanis Club heard from Brad Bush, Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at Chelsea High School. He has been in the education field for 26 years in various capacities, and loves his work here in Chelsea.

Chelsea High School’s enrollment is 800 students, down from a peak of 1,100 a few years ago, which is considered small compared to nearby schools in the area. The athletic offerings though, are more comparable to the larger schools. There are 31 varsity programs, and 70 percent of students participate in sports. There is a no-cut policy in the middle school, which ensures that everyone gets to play.

He is appreciative that voters approved the bond three years ago. The money has been used to modernize infrastructure. For example, the weight training room was moved to a better location, and all new furniture is in the athletic classroom.

The athletic classroom is used by both boys and girls sports to, among other things, review game videos. This room will be complete when Bulldog signage is wrapped around the room. He is looking for community support for the $3,500 cost of the signage.

The Chelsea Athletic Boosters have been a great help to the programs, preventing the school district instituting a pay to play policy, which many nearby districts have been forced to use.

Our Gourmet Nuts and Delicious Delights Sale continues. A 36-ounce can of 5 different tree nuts, or a tin of delicious nuts and raisins are $25 each.

Both the nuts and chocolates make a great gift for the holidays. Order from any Kiwanian, from our Facebook page www.facebook.com/kiwanisclubofchelsea or by clicking on the Kiwanis banner ad on Chelsea Update.
