Last Monday, the Chelsea Kiwanis Club heard from Cristina Manly, director of sales at Chelsea Retirement Community.

She moved to Chelsea from Southern California to pursue a desire to work with seniors that she wished for since being inspired by wonderful experiences as a child.

Manly worked at Trinity Health in Chelsea before coming to Chelsea Retirement Community, and still resides here.

For 116 years, CRC has been serving seniors. Recently, a simplified name change occurred when parent organization United Methodist Retirement Communities and Porter Hills rebranded to Brio Living Services. The Chelsea location has independent living, assisted living, rehabilitation and memory care. It offers many social and recreational activities for residents, including a wellness center.

There is a transition coordinator on site to help residents moving from one service to another. Residents of Cedars of Dexter, The Pines in Chelsea, and Silver Maples may also transition to CRC. After residents of CRC, they have priority over non-residents, as those properties are partly or wholly owned by Brio Living Services.

You can become a resident at 55 years of age, and there is a waiting list. There is a current trend of 55-65 year olds wanting to reside at CRC to be relieved of many of the tasks involved in home ownership, (eg. mowing lawns and shoveling snow).
