(Chelsea Update would like to thank Bob Milbrodt for the information in this story.)
Last Monday, the Chelsea Kiwanis Club heard from Joseph Brodeur who graduated from the Law Enforcement Career Academy through Kiwanis and the Michigan State Police last month.
He thanked Chelsea Kiwanis for sponsoring his time at the academy and gave us the highlights of his experience. He described a fully scheduled week that began at 5:15 a.m. each morning followed by a physical training session before breakfast. Inspection of quarters, drills and marching were part of the program.
Classes on the roles of the police were given. First aid/CPR, traffic law, forensic science, and firearm training, among others, were covered.
Attendees were punished as a group if one of them erred, enforcing teamwork. Joseph was surprised that in just one week he could become close to those who were strangers on the first day, and has stayed in contact since.
As uncomfortable as being away from family and having to get up so early each morning, Joseph now feels anything is possible.
He looks forward to a career where he can help people.
