Last Saturday, Kiwanians joined with members of Chelsea High School’s Key Club and National Honor Society in a leaf raking project.
Community members had contacted the Chelsea Senior Center asking for some help clearing leaves from their yards. Volunteer rakers gathered at the Senior Center armed with warm clothes and gloves, rakes, tarps and even a few leaf blowers, then split up into three groups to tackle the jobs.
Before long, all requests had been satisfied. Photos show the triumphant workers.
Last Monday, the club welcomed members of Boy Scout Pack 3455 to our dinner meeting at Chelsea Hospital.
Outgoing Cubmaster Katie Giardello has two sons in scouts and a daughter in girl scouts. She reported that 28 families are involved in Pack 3455, which is a good rebound in participation since COVID. Girls are now eligible to join the pack, which is more focused than ever on families.
Katie introduced incoming Cubmaster Jonathon Baugh, who grew up in the Birmingham/Bloomfield area, rose through the ranks to become an Eagle Scout and strongly believes in supporting youth. When his young son expressed interest, both were off and running.
Jenny Speyer had two brothers and two sons involved in scouting and serves as Committee Chair for the pack.
Arrow of Light Scout Miles Baker will soon become a Boy Scout. He likes cooking and the activities while camping. He gave us the recipe for Trash Bag Salad, which included carrots, lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, etc. thrown into a clean trash bag and shaken. He says it was delicious.
Webelo Scout Nico Giardello enjoyed the Pinewood Derby and the sleepovers. During their visit to the USS Silversides in Muskegon, he found it hard to sleep as the engine would start and stop regularly. He is looking forward to a trip to the Toledo Zoo.
Wolf Scout Angelo Altomonte was impressed with his visit to an aquarium, and was the top seller of popcorn.
Lion Scout Simon Baugh worked together with Nico finding the best spot to set up camp.
Our 5th Annual Gourmet Nut and Chocolate Delights Sale has begun. See the banner ad on Chelsea Update for a link to order.
Next Monday we will hear from Shasta Grifka from Western-Washtenaw Value Express (WAVE).
