Last Monday, the Chelsea Kiwanis Club celebrated its 95th anniversary in the city. Kiwanis members and guests from Kiwanis additional clubs, including Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti, Whitmore Lake, Caledonia, and Jackson, (the club that sponsored ours in 1924) were on hand for the celebration.

Speaker Matt Pedlow and five of the many students who have travelled with him to the site of the Civil War battlefield at Gettysburg talked about this yearly trip that Kiwanis supports each year.

The students spoke about their favorite memories of the trip, which included early morning hikes to the top of Round Top, as those soldiers did 156 years ago.

Last Saturday, several members of the Chelsea club attended a divisional meeting of area Kiwanis clubs, and the local club was recognized for the successful year just past.

Also last Saturday, Kiwanis took part in Chelsea Expo. Many visitors stopped by the table and spun the wheel and donated to the groups Chelsea Kiwanis supports.

Monday is the club’s annual salute to area farmers who grow and raise the food we enjoy every day.

Chelsea Kiwanis meets each Monday at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Hospital cafeteria, and the speakers begin at about 6:45 p.m.

Everyone is invited to the club’s meetings to enjoy the speakers and learn about Kiwanis.
