Chelsea Kiwanis to assist with hospital’s Breakfast with Santa

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Bob Milbrodt for the information in this story.)

The Chelsea Kiwanis Club will join with the Chelsea High School Key Club at St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Hospital’s Breakfast with Santa. Children of staff members will meet Santa, enjoy refreshments, games, and crafts.

Lieutenant Governor Jacqueline Otto conducted the club meeting last Monday. She introduced Kim Hoppe from the Weekend Red Backpack Food Program. Hoppe gave a passionate and inspiring presentation about efforts to provide meals for children participating in the free or reduced price lunch program at school with meals on the weekends.

According to Food Gatherers, the food bank serving Washtenaw County, 1 in 8 children suffers from hunger in the county. Meals are distributed in red backpacks and are nutritious and easy to prepare.

The club meeting begins each Monday at 6:15 p.m. in the St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea Hospital cafeteria, and the speakers begin at about 6:45 p.m.  Everyone is invited to the club’s meetings to enjoy our speakers and learn about Kiwanis.
