Chelsea Knights of Columbus bestow top awards to members

St. Louis Guanella Council #3092 of the Chelsea Knights of Columbus held its annual Grand Knight’s Christmas Party on Saturday, Dec. 1 at St. Mary Catholic Church.

Grand Knight Scott Staelgraeve awarded Knight of the Year and for Family of the Year, along with several top service awards.

Immediate Past Grand Knight Owen Ballow, who led the council during the past two years, was honored with the council’s Knight of the Year Award.

Ballow led the council’s “Children’s Peace Project” with Father William J. Turner, which garnered recognition from K of C Supreme Council for the 2012 International Youth Activity Award at ceremonies in Anaheim, Calif. this summer.

The Family of the Year was given to Norman, Kathi, and Joe Neuman of Chelsea, who were honored for their many years of contributions to St. Louis Center.

The Neuman family was very involved in St. Louis’ Legacy Campaign during which the council made a pledge of $20,000.

Joe Neuman was also honored for his 20 years of membership in the council, while John Bulick was honored for 35 years, and George Merkel was honored for 65 years.
