The Beach Middle School field hockey team traveled to the Toledo area twice for games on Sept. 28-29, starting with a match up against the Maumee Valley Hawks.

The Bulldogs prevailed 3-0. The teams appeared evenly matched at the start of first quarter until Bulldog Cecilia Bayer scored the first goal of the game, assisted by Azlyn Eckert. Eckert scored during the second quarter, followed by a goal by Grace Eckhout during an offensive corner.

Goalie Libby Timberlake and the rest of the defensive line unfailingly cleared the ball out of the scoring circle, resulting in a 3-0 score at half time.

During the second half, the midfielders and forwards consistently kept the ball in Maumee Valley’s half of the field and secured three more offensive corners. Bulldogs Charlotte Ferrell and Avery Adams had especially good games against the Hawks.

Returning to Ohio, the Bulldogs then played the Ottawa Hills Green Bears; this was the second matchup of the season between the two teams.

Although the teams’ first contest in early September ended in a 2-2 tied game, the Bulldogs lost 0-2 to the Green Bears’ last week. Both teams started off strong, each with an offensive corner and shots on goal.

The Green Bears scored during the first quarter, despite strong defensive play by Emma Woodard, Lucy Taylor, and goalie Maddy McCollum. Ottawa Valley scored again during the third quarter, and Chelsea remained scoreless despite having 13 offensive corners during the game.

On Sept. 30, Chelsea welcomed the Pinckney Pirates to their home field at the middle school.

The Bulldogs won 6-0 over a young Pirates team. Lexi Wahl quickly netted a goal, then Eckert also scored before the end of the first quarter, assisted by Brenna Taylor.

During the second quarter, Cecilia Bayer netted a goal, and Rowan Burkel scored on an offensive corner, assisted by B. Taylor.

Before the whistle blew to signal halftime, L. Wahl scored her second goal of the game. Brinna Wenzel also showed aggressive offensive play to keep the ball in Pinckney’s defensive half of the field.

During the third quarter, L. Taylor scored the final goal of the game, assisted by McKenzie Williams, bringing the goal tally to 6 for the Bulldogs.
