Chelsea Parks Commission: please confine painting to The Rock surface

The Chelsea Parks Commission met at Pierce Park Tuesday, Aug. 7, but did not have a quorum, so members proceeded with a work session.

Mayor Melissa Johnson, a member of the Parks Commission, was dismayed to see paint on several of the trees in proximity to The Rock. The commission is working on creating a buffer around the rock to prevent paint from taking its toll on the environment and asks those who paint the rock to try to keep the paint on the rock.

In July, commission members talked about visiting parks in the general area that offer good accessibility for the disabled. Johnson visited Gallup Park and said play areas there were friendly to all users.

The Parks Commission has been working on some design ideas for Pierce Park and during the work session looked at a variety of play structures that might be possibilities to get for Pierce Park.

City Manager John Hanifan said he’d work on getting pricing for the play structures, which he hopes to have at the commission’s next meeting later in August.
