Chelsea Parks Commission to release new survey

By Lisa Carolin

There is a new survey about Chelsea’s parks, and it will soon be available on the City of Chelsea’s website.

The Chelsea Parks Commission encourages residents to fill out the survey and is hoping to get at least 500 responses.

That was announced at the Chelsea Parks Commission’s March 3 meeting. The survey will be available through the month of March and for the first few weeks of April.

When the results of the survey are tallied, the Parks Commission will hold an open house, tentatively on Wednesday, May 13, from 6-8 p.m. to discuss those results.

Residents interested in sharing input about building a community center in Chelsea is encouraged to apply to the Community Center Task Force this week. Information is below.

The schedule is filling up quickly for this summer’s Rec It Tuesdays. A variety of activities including ultimate frisbee, kite flying, Knockerball, volleyball, and pool night are being scheduled at locations around Chelsea on Tuesday nights from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Chelsea City Manager John Hanifan told Parks Commission members that the snow melting means muddy conditions at Pierce Park so heavy equipment can’t resume work there for some time. The new path needs to be graded.

Hanifan will bring information on the second gazebo to be built at Pierce Park to the next meeting, with the choices being a round gazebo for approximately $24,000 or a rectangular gazebo for approximately $18,000.

The next meeting of the Parks Commission will take place on Tuesday, April 7 at 9 a.m. in City Council Chambers.
