Chelsea planners approve Silver Maples, IHA site plans

By Lisa Carolin

Silver Maples of Chelsea will soon be adding 16 villas to its selection of living facilities.

At its July 21 meeting, the Chelsea Planning Commission (Jamie Lane and Peter Shaw absent) approved the final site plan to construct Deer Ridge Villas, 16 new villa residences and a small maintenance garage, located at 775 S. Main St. in Chelsea.

There may soon be a new IHA medical center in Chelsea as well. The planning commission approved an application for a preliminary site plan for a new 17,598 sq. ft. IHA (Integrated Health Associates ) Chelsea Medical Center. The application was filed by Washtenaw Engineering on behalf of IHA for an office to be located at 14288 E. Old US-12 in Chelsea.

Approval of the preliminary site plan for IHA is contingent on placement of the driveway approach as directed by the Washtenaw County Road Commission, contingent on revisions to satisfy the items addressed in the staff reports from the City of Chelsea and Midwestern Consulting, and contingent on rework of the site to satisfy specific sections of the City of Chelsea Commercial Design Standards.

In other action, the planning commission voted to table an application from Hardwood Solutions for combined preliminary and final site plans for warehouse expansion pending the applicant providing adequate information for the City to evaluate compliance with noise standards. The applicant needs to provide information to ensure noise compliance with its new equipment.

The planning commission chose its board officers: Claire Robinson as board chair, Adam Ellison as vice chair, and Sarah Haselschwardt as secretary.

There is currently a vacancy on the Chelsea Planning Commission. To learn more, go to https://www.city-chelsea.org/boards-committees-commissions.
