Following a public hearing, the Chelsea Planning Commission approved the Zoning Text Amendment for Public Noticing Requirements (Sections 10.02, 12.02, and 14.05) at its May 16 meeting.
The text amendments propose changes to the public noticing requirements for site plan reviews for the purpose of better matching local requirements to the Michigan Zoning Enabling Act (MZEA). The changes will potentially allow community development staff to expedite site plans that require planning commission review.
Members of the planning commission also discussed a rating scale that they then used to evaluate and score the Gestamp final site plan for its expansion that the commission previously approved.
The commission rated subjects including building architecture, site compatibility, exterior and construction materials, landscaping, exterior lighting, identification, and traffic flow and safety, as part of Gestamp’s application for an Industrial Facilities Tax (IFT) exemption.
The commission’s recommendation now goes to Chelsea City Council for review.
