The Chelsea Planning Commission met on Tuesday, June 17, to tackle two main agenda items.

The first was a special use request by Joe Ziolkowski, owner of the old police station building at 104 E. Main St. Ziolkowski was unanimously granted a special use permit for two proposed apartments on the second floor of the building.

He’d previously applied for, and was granted, a special use permit to convert the third floor of the building into two apartments.

Second on the agenda was the Magellan Properties’ request to rezone the Federal Screw property at 500 S. Main St and 425 Congdon St. from industrial to Planned Unit Development (PUD).

Christine Linfield, city planning, engineering, zoning and community development director said, “There are a lot of pieces to this site plan review.”

The request was tabled until the next planning commission meeting on July 15 because a public hearing is required to amend the city’s comprehensive plan to remove the residential component from the Magellan PUD rezoning request for the property.

And, the planning commission unanimously approved a motion for the public hearing on July 15.

A work session on the Magellan proposal was also scheduled for July 1.
