Chelsea Planning Commission approves Chelsea Square Preliminary Site Plan

By Lisa Carolin

The preliminary site plan for Chelsea Square was unanimously approved by the Sylvan Township Planning Commission at its May 27 meeting via Zoom.

Approval had been postponed earlier this year based on the applicant updating wetlands delineation and making sure the township had water and sewer capacity, both of which were completed. Conditions include that sidewalks be on both sides of the street.

Chelsea Square is proposed to be an 81-unit apartment multifamily residential complex located in 17 buildings to be accessed from Pielemeir Drive.

Father Enzo Addari, executive director of the St. Louis Center, spoke to the planning commission about updating the center’s Phase II plan. He said that because the center’s population is aging, St. Louis Center will now gear itself for 18 year olds and older. He said the oldest resident currently is 81 and that the center has a long waiting list for adults. He also said that a lot more construction needs to be done in the future.

Robin Hills Farm will be proposing a renovation project to the farm’s Welcome Building. That was announced by Robin Hills Managing Director Adam Kavsky at the meeting.

Kavsky gave the commission a presentation on what’s been going on at the 129-acre farm as well as plans in keeping with the farm’s mission. The proposed renovation to the Welcome Building would be to expand the service area to accommodate equipment such as ice coolers, sinks, and waste bins, which would be used to serve liquor, something Robin Hills Farm is already licensed to do.

Planning commission members expressed concern about the farm sticking to its mission of education and recreation along with a commitment to agriculture. No action was taken on the matter.
