Chelsea Planning Commission Approves Special Use for Collins at the Clocktower

By Lisa Carolin

Following a public hearing, the Chelsea Planning Commission reviewed and approved a special land use proposal for Collins at the Clocktower Suite 100.

Applicant Amy Collins currently occupies the third floor and is looking to retain that space as well as to move into the first floor. The address for the spaces are 310 North Main St. and 311 Weiser Way. There are no changes planned to the exterior of the building.

The hours of 7 a.m.-12 midnight will stay the same and depend on the events, which include weddings, bridal showers, baby showers, retirement parties, birthday parties, and more.

The venue is zoned as a banquet hall, which is permitted as a special land use in a DT (downtown) district.

Planning commission members expressed some concern about parking. Currently guests are encouraged to park in the city municipal lot next to the fire station. Collins said she is also working on the purchase of a shuttle as well as permission to park at the Chelsea Milling Company (Jiffy) lot.

The planning commission currently has a vacancy that expires June 30, 2024. For more information go to https://www.city-chelsea.org/boards-committees-commissions.
