Chelsea Planning Commission Holds Last Meeting of the Year

By Lisa Carolin

A permanent tent and roof for outdoor dining at The Grateful Crow restaurant in Chelsea was approved by the Chelsea Planning Commission at its Dec. 21 meeting via Zoom.

The Marygrove Awning Company will add the tent and roof at the 420 N. Main St. location.

The applicant submitted a sketch plan of the proposed structure, which includes a roof that will be enclosed beneath a vinyl tent. The proposed roof structure will cover the existing dining area and can be used during the summer to keep the sun out on hot days and can also be used in cold weather.

In other action, the planning commission approved a proposed amended site plan as submitted by Chris Humphrey for 1135 S. Main St. to add a drive-up ATM kiosk to the Huntington Bank parking lot. Huntington wants to add an additional point of service in its drive through section, which will mean adding nine feet of black top to the lot.

A public hearing was held during the meeting pertinent to a text amendment to Article 4.13 and there were no comments. The commission approved the recommendation to the Chelsea City Council to amend article 4.13 by changing the language from “All multi-family dwellings located in the R-3, DT, T-1, and T-2 districts shall comply with the standards of this section as well as the form-based development standards in ARTICLE 5” to “All multi-family dwellings located in the R-3, DT, T-1, and T-2 district shall comply with the standards of this section; multi-family dwellings located in the DT, T-1, and T-2 districts must also comply with the form-based development standards in ARTICLE 5.”

Calendar dates for 2022 planning commission meetings were approved. They will take place on the first and third Tuesday of each month unless there is a conflict with Chelsea City Council or a holiday, in which case the meeting is moved to the Wednesday of that week.

Heather Hunnell, who recently was approved to join the Chelsea Planning Commission, was welcomed during the meeting. She has lived in the City of Chelsea for the past 10 years and is employed by Consumers Energy where she works as a sales forecasting analyst.
