Chelsea Planning Commission OK’s 2 Rezoning Requests

By Lisa Carolin

A rezoning request recommendation for parcels with frontage along Cleveland Street and West Middle Street was approved unanimously by the Chelsea Planning Commission at its Aug. 11 meeting, and now goes to the Chelsea City Council for a vote.

Planning Commission Chair Claire Robinson recused herself because her family owns a unit in the condominium next door to the parcels.

The request is to rezone 0.69 acres from R-3, Multiple-Family Residential, to R-2, Two-Family Residential. Property owner Jess Spike told the planning commission that there is no feasible way to develop the properties except to combine them and build one duplex unit on each lot for a total of six units. They will each be three-bedroom, two-bathroom rental units.

The parcels in question are: #06-06-12-325; #06-06-12-325-026; #06-06-12-325-027.

Chelsea’s Interim Planning Coordinator Jamie Gorenflo told the planning commission that the rezoning is consistent with the intent of the master plan.
