The Chelsea Board of Education approved technology upgrades totaling about $393,000 for Beach Middle School at it meeting on Monday, May 5.

About $310,000 of the total is slated for new iPads for students while staff will be given iPad Airs at a cost of about $20,000 for 40 units. The expenditures will be covered by the district’s technology bond.

About $47,000 will be used for the purchase of new laptop and desktop computers for the school to replace outdated computers with an XP operating system, which is no longer supported by Microsoft.

Other items included in the technology upgrade include projectors and accessories, iPad carts, syncing equipment, and printers.

This week is Teacher Appreciation Week, and Superintendent of Schools Andy Ingall, as well as the school board, expressed their thanks to all Chelsea teachers. As the school year draws to a close, this is a good time for all parents to let teachers know how much their efforts mean to their families.

Advanced Placement (AP) testing is underway at the high school this week and will continue next week as well. Ingall wished all students who are participating the best of luck during this high stakes time.

Installation has begun on toggle switches for all classroom doors, which will provide fast interior locking ability in case this functionality is ever needed in an emergency.

Mark your calendar, as this Friday, May 9 is the annual PTO ice cream social at South Meadows for K-5 students. The event will take place from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Admission is free, and all children who attend will get a coupon for a free ice cream.

The annual Cum Laude banquet is next Wednesday, May 14 at 6 p.m. at Chelsea High School.

An anonymous donor has graciously given $1,000 for Chelsea’s homeless youth. This money will be used for everything from field trip fees to prom tickets.

The last day of school will be Tuesday, June 10. Dismissal will be at 11:10 a.m.
