The Chelsea Senior Center Pickleball Club had a busy spring so far.

This fast-growing sport continues to grow in popularity in town with the continued efforts of their strong membership.

After running sold out indoor winter sessions of “Learn to Play” classes through Chelsea Community Education, it was decided to ramp up more available training with an outdoor spring clinic.

Lead instructor Laura Ouellette said this program was sold out within days of posting so they created even more slots. Attendees came from all over the area to participate in a 3-hour training by certified instructors where fundamentals were reinforced with drilling games and followed by a friendly round robin competition with prizes.

Also this past month with the guidance of committee member Julie Prince, CSC members graciously provided donations of used paddles and purchased a brand new net to give to the local St. Louis Center. When it was delivered and set up for them, they were thrilled to have this sport at their residence and excited to play. The feedback is they now play every day. Some of the residents of the center attend weekday activities and share space at the WSEC building with the senior center pickleball club. This is where and how they were introduced to the game early on.

Finally, CSC trainers volunteered to host a local church youth group this past week and taught them all how to play. Church leader Jake Budd was amazed at how easy it is to learn and said, “This is a game for all ages. It is so easy to learn and our group had such a good time.”

The CSC Pickleball Club has some very generous members with their time and trainers are happily available to share their passion for the game. Trainers include: Ann Lott-Uphaus, Mike Katona, Monica Gofton, Julie Prince, Laura Ouellette.

The Chelsea Senior Center Pickleball club continues to offer local opportunities to learn this fun game either by joining the senior center or taking a class through the Chelsea Community Education programming.
