Chelsea State Bank protects bank debit card holders

Chelsea State Bank (CSB) sent a message to debit card holders over the weekend that said, “Due to a rise in fraudulent card activity, we have restricted the use of our debit cards credit purchases at grocery and discount stores outside of the surrounding communities.”

There are no restrictions on PIN transactions, however.

The CSB cards can be used as normal in our community and the surrounding areas, according to the message.

“We continue to recommend that a PIN purchase is the safest and most economical for all parties. It helps keep retail costs down and remains the safest method of payment,” the message states.

Outside of our communities, you may be declined a credit purchase. If so, please try a PIN purchase to complete your transaction.

The message to card holders was from Michael D. Willis, vice president and chief information officer.
