(Publisher’s note: Please continue to send me your stories of random acts of kindness — whether you are on the giving or the receiving end. You can email them to lallmendinger@sbcglobal.net.)
My husband is a crossing guard for the City of Chelsea at Madison and AD Mayer and has been for many years.
The neighbors around his stop and parents who go by routinely show him their appreciation for keeping the intersection safe. One neighbor brings him a cup of coffee EVERY morning. Others might stop to chat or call out “thank you” as they drive past.
Some drop off goodies like cookies, donuts, paczki, candy, bagels, or hot chocolate. Students of all ages call out bus or car windows to say “hello” or relay a funny joke.
Dogs walking their people go out of their way to walk by him to get some tail wagging pets. These random acts of kindness boost his spirit and help get him out the door each morning even on the coldest, rainiest, snowiest, windiest, and hottest of days.
Thank you for taking such good care of him!
