Chelsea Update Readers Recall Their Random Acts of Kindness

(Publisher’s note: Please continue to send me your stories of random acts of kindness — whether you are on the giving or the receiving end. You can email them to lallmendinger@sbcglobal.net.)

Almost 5 years ago, I took my parents out to eat to thank them for helping me with my recent move. I had just gone through a messy divorce, and my parents hired movers and ensured I was OK emotionally.

Loving pizza like my Dad does, we chose Jets. After we finished eating, the waitress approached and advised that a gentleman had picked up our tab, and had been doing this for years. I burst into tears.

She said he wishes to remain anonymous, so I was unable to personally thank him. His generosity meant more to me than he will ever know.

Fast forward a couple months, and my young daughter and I were out to eat at a Coney in Ann Arbor. I let her pick the table whose tab we would pick up. She picked a cute, elderly couple.

We paid their tab, then ran to our car to watch them leave the restaurant, smiling. It was a wonderful feeling, and a valuable lesson for her to learn.
