The Chelsea Volleyball team attended the Bedford Invitational on Saturday Sept. 4, and the team went 3-2 on the day and continues to make strides.

Chelsea beat Ann Arbor Pioneer in pool play and then played Mt, Morris, the #1 ranked team in class B for the third time this season.

The Bulldogs came out strong and won the first set with great passing and effective hitting. But, they did not fair as well in the second set as passing was not as strong. In the third set, the serving kept Chelsea from being able to win the set. It is an area that we must work on as a group to make sure we are not giving our opponents points that they are not earning said coach Laura Cleveland.

The team finished second in pool play and then played Marshall. They were a very well rounded team and it was a very good match. Chelsea lost the first set and came back strong in the second. The Bulldogs were down 14-12 in the third set and won the final four points to take the match.

“I was very happy with how we executed in the final stretch,” Cleveland said.

The team then was seeded #5 in the gold bracket against SMCC, ranked #1 in class C. The girls played a very strong match and executed very well in the third set to take the match and set up a matchup with #1 Class A Novi.

“It was a very interesting tournament, playing the #1 team in 3 different classes,” Cleveland said. “I was really happy that we were able to get the experience and gauge where we are as a team and to see what teams were able to execute against us so that we can continue to improve.”
