Chelsea’s businesses ‘Doing Well by Doing Good’

(Chelsea Update would like to thank D and B Strategic Marketing for the information in this story.)

The philosophy ‘Doing well by doing good’ unites Chelsea business owners helping each other during COVID-19.

This week, Palmer Auto Service donated $1,000 in gift cards from local restaurants to St Joseph Mercy Chelsea Hospital to thank hospital staff for working on the frontline during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Palmer Auto Service owner Bob Mock said his customers would regularly drop their vehicles off for service at his shop, then walk downtown for a coffee or to grab a bite to eat.

With the ‘Stay Home, Stay Safe’ executive order in place, Palmer Auto Service customers can either drop off vehicles and return home or arrange pick-up and drop off delivery, so they do not need to leave the house.

“All of the downtown businesses rely on the foot traffic generated by one-another; this is our way of supporting a few of the restaurants that are open while also showing the hospital staff how much we respect and appreciate what they are doing,”  said Mock.

MarieAnn Fody, the owner of Zou Zou’s Cafe is sincerely grateful for the support. She said, “We are fortunate to have businesses in the Downtown area that look out for one another. I think Bobby at Palmer Auto is doing something pretty wonderful.”

In their own act of doing good, Smokehouse 52 BBQ donated an additional $100 in gift cards to thank hospital staff.

In addition, Lehman and Scheffler Real Estate Services is putting together gift boxes for hospital nurses.

Other Instances of businesses helping healthcare organizations are numerous, and include Ugly Dog Distillery’s production of hand sanitizing gel, and FarmSudz distribution of moisturizing soap, cream and BooBooz Magic Balm for local health care workers assisting COVID-19 patients.

“Every act of kindness, compassion, and support makes a difference. It is heartening to see everyone stepping up to help as best they are able.” said Mock.
