Wicked Cricket, a new teen rock band on the rise in Michigan, won The Neutral Zone’s Battle of the Bands on Friday, with an all-original set list, an electrifying stage-presence, and a lot of passion.

Their metallic-infused songs rocked the crowd with an eclectic mix of music incorporating tones reminiscent of ‘70s and ‘80s rock bands, creating a unique style all their own.

Wicket Cricket debuted at the Chelsea District Library’s SongFest last fall and opened the new year with their first concert. The teens, all Chelsea High School students, consist of drummer Trilian Krug (16), guitarist and vocalist Logan Gossiaux (17), guitarist Liam Favre (14), bassist and vocalist Jay Hawkins (17), and keyboardist and vocalist Gavin Cagney (16). Friday night’s win lands them a gig in Ann Arbor this summer.

The Neutral Zone’s Battle of the Bands kicked off with a stunning lineup:  six bands battling for the top spot. Wicked Cricket took first place, with Natural Blonde second, and The Shrugs third. All showcased a wealth of musical ability and originality, with a mix of styles and genres.

Wicket Cricket’s songs were all originals, written by the band, and included “Wooden Boy,” “Crushing Beetles” (a nod to the disappearance of the Beatles-type of bands of the 1960s), “A Cowboy’s Life” (a rock and roll western with some wicked guitar riffs), “Not My Hysteria”, and “That’s My Girl”.

The band has several upcoming local gigs including The Rumpus Room on April 29 and Sounds and Sights on Thursday Nights on June 15.

They are also available to play for parties. Visit them on Instagram to learn more @wicked_cricket_band.
