City of Chelsea, Sylvan Township to meet for pair of work sessions

Chelsea logoThe Chelsea City Council and the Sylvan Township Board will meet for two work sessions to discuss issues of mutual interest.

At its City Council meeting on Sept. 10, members voted 4-2 to set the first meeting for Sept. 24 at 6 p.m. in the City Council chambers. It’s expected that introductions and a discussion of future topics will be on the agenda.

A second work session was approved for Oct. 15 from 6-8 p.m. at Sylvan Township Hall.

Council Members Rod Anderson and Dustin Suntheimer requested that the City Council push back the dates of these meetings until after the Nov. 5 City Council election.

“There could be new individuals (on this council) and I don’t see what significant changes there would be by pushing back the meeting 2 and a half weeks,” Anderson said.

“I agree with Rod,” Suntheimer said. “Let’s take a step back.”

Council Member Ann Feeney said that since she’d talked to Sylvan board members informally, and she wouldn’t be on the City Council after the election, she’d like to attend the meeting.

Both Anderson and Suntheimer said that since both meetings were public meetings, she could attend regardless of whether she was on the City Council or not.

Other council members said that they wanted the meetings to take place as soon as possible.

Both Council Members Cheri Anderson and Marcia Parker said they wanted to keep the positive momentum going.

“This is a positive step forward,” said Mayor Jason Lindauer, who called the meetings a “home and home series,” in reference to each elected board having a meeting in their chambers.

Council Member Frank Hammer has an excused absence from the meeting.
