The Coliseum Comets Synchronized Skating (Competitive) Team skated to a first place win at the Kalamazoo Kick Off Classic on Nov. 24, in the team’s first competition.

Here’s a link to a video of the skaters.

The Competitive Comets team consists of 11 girls ranging in age from 8-13 years from and Chelsea and Dexter area who have been practicing since June to prepare for competition at the Beginner Two level. They train at Chelsea’s Arctic Coliseum.

On Nov. 24 coaches and parents alike breathlessly watched the girls glide onto the ice together, anticipation high for a beautiful performance. Spectators were not disappointed, and the excitement was palpable throughout the entire routine.

The emphasis of Beginner competition is on mastering the “basic skills” of synchronized skating, and teams are judged on how well they execute those basic skills.

At the completion of Beginner 2 performances, the Coliseum Comets were declared the first place winners.

Congratulations to the entire Comets Team – Isobel Alford, Madison Majeske, Natasha Eastridge, Regan McKee, Zoe Beekman, Megan Nichols, Alex Davis, Jillian Chesney, Jordyn Porter, Lauren Penrose, Ellie Williams as well as Coaches Kayleah Crosby and Megan Gueli.

Next up for the Coliseum Comets: Dr. Richard Porter Synchronized Classic at the Ice Cube in Ann Arbor on Saturday, Dec. 7.  The Comets are scheduled to skate at 12:17 p.m.

(Publisher’s note: Chelsea Update wishes all the girls the best of luck in their next competition.)
