Counting down to fair: Ladies Day, Friday, Aug. 24

A homemaker enters her entries at last year's fair with the help of her husband.

As superintendent of the event, Mary Tobin says,”Ladies Day is a chance to hang out with your mom, your sisters, your aunts, and your friends, drink coffee, eat muffins, sit down and just laugh.”

Plus, there will be some rockin’ and rollin’ goin’ on because Elvis will be in the house for the event that takes place Friday, Aug. 24 from 8:30-10:30 a.m.

Tobin warns ladies 18 years and older, who might not have attended the event previously that the ladies begin lining up between 7 and 7:30 a.m. even though the doors don’t open until 8 a.m.

Admission to the fair for the event is $5 that morning.

“The ladies are out there, lined up, rain or shine in lawn chairs with umbrellas,” she said.

The first 300 ladies to register will receive free goodie bags, and everyone who registers at the door when they arrive will be eligible for several door prizes.

The six committee members who put on the event do not put their names in the drawing, Tobin said.

In addition to Elvis, the fair queen candidates are expected to do a little dance routine and the homemaker champions are recognized.

Tobin said if anyone would like to volunteer to help out that day (and yes, they will still be eligible for the door prizes) they can contact her at 734-255-1031 or via email at [email protected].
