The window to apply for a grant from the Chelsea Education Foundation (CEF) is closing soon.

Applications for funding of local educational programs and projects will continue online through 5 p.m. on Sept. 27.

CEF provides funding for a wide spectrum of educational activities to benefit members of the Chelsea community from school aged children to retirees.  Since it was founded in 1990, CEF has given out more than $220,000 to Chelsea School District educators and community organizations. About $47,000 was distributed in and 2012-13 academic year.

To apply for a grant, you must register with the Chelsea Education Foundation website. Once you have registered, you may then complete the grant application on CEF’s website.

Grants are only awarded to non-profit, tax exempt and/or charitable organizations and CEF gives highest priority and consideration to projects and programs that

benefit many people in the community, increase access to educational resources, and strengthen collaboration between the applicant organizations and the private sector.

Upon completion of the project or program, each grant recipient must complete and return a grant performance review. Future grant consideration may be jeopardized if all requirements are not met.

New grant cycles begin in September of each year and funds are awarded in late October.

CEF does not typically fund the following: annual giving or capital campaigns, computer hardware, individuals, loans, substitute teacher pay, normal operating expenses, religious or sectarian purposes, advocacy or political purposes, annual meetings or food items.

Past grant recipients include: Elementary, Middle and High School Programs, Chelsea Senior Center, Chelsea District Library and One World One Family.
