The Chelsea Golf Team finally got the 2013 season started on Tuesday, April 9 with a match against Milan at Reddeman Farms.

Milan won the match 163-183, and Head Golf Coach Joe Ewald said, “Milan is a solid golf team, and a score close to 160 this early in the year is very good.”

With only a couple guys returning with varsity experience for Chelsea combined with very little practice time, “I thought a score of 183 was pretty decent start for us.”

Leading the way for Chelsea was Zach McKinley, with a fine score of 41.

“He played a nice round of golf,” Ewald said.

“After a beautiful eagle on hole number 4, a slight stumble and back-to-back double bogeys on 5 and 6, was all that prevented it from being a great round of golf,”

Also scoring for Chelsea was Joe Slusser with a 47, J.J. Duncan with a 47, and Sean Lyons with a 48.

The weather this spring has presented a major challenge for us. Quality practice time has been non-existent.

Although the season officially started on March 11, the golf course was still frozen, so the team was not able to get its first real 9-hole practice round in until the day before the guys went on spring break, Ewald said.

The Milan match was scheduled for the day after they got back.
