Diabetes Prevention Program Information Session Dates

(Chelsea Update would like to thank Joyce Williams for the information in this story.)

The National Kidney Foundation of Michigan (NKFM) is offering no-cost information sessions on the Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) live online in May 2021.

If you have prediabetes or concerns about developing type 2 diabetes, this nationally-recognized, CDC-certified lifestyle change program can help reduce the risk, delay the onset, or even prevent diabetes. In online DPP, as part of a small, supportive group online, you can attend the program from the comfort of your own home or wherever you can access a computer, a tablet, or a smartphone.

To be considered for an upcoming workshop, RSVP at ReadySetPrevent.org for one of the free  hour long information sessions below:
Thursday, May 6 – 6:00 pm
Monday, May 10 – 5:30 pm
Tuesday, May 18 – 2:00 pm
Wednesday, May 26 – 11:00 am

New DPPs will start on various days and times. Please call the NKFM at 800-482-1455 if you cannot attend an information session so we can explore other options. The workshops can be covered by insurers, various funders or scholarships.

During the evidence-based DPP online, a trained coach will help you learn how to eat healthier, lose weight, and incorporate more physical activity into your life. The coach will guide the group in how to make better choices over the course of 16 one-hour weekly sessions followed by eight monthly sessions. The program provides a supportive environment for people who are facing similar challenges and trying to make the same changes. Together, participants find ways to overcome obstacles and celebrate their successes.

People with prediabetes often have no symptoms. To find out if you have prediabetes or if you are at risk for it, you can take the risk test at ReadySetPrevent.org. The risk test is also provided at the information session.

To RSVP or for more information, visit ReadySetPrevent.org or call 800-482-1455.

DPP is just one of the many distance learning programs now offered by the NKFM. See the complete list at www.nkfm.org/distancelearning.
