DNR plans family ice fishing, skating and bonfire on Feb. 16

Watch an ice fishing demonstration and try it yourself as part of the Department of Natural Resources’ Free Fishing Weekend on Saturday, Feb. 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Make your own fishing pole, learn how to play the snow snake game, and enjoy other winter activities. Plus, part of Mill Lake will be cleared for skating, so bring along your ice skates.

Then, everyone can warm up afterwards around a bonfire while you roast marshmallows and drink hot chocolate provided by the Waterloo Natural History Association.

Bring your own hotdogs to cook for lunch.

This event will be held at the Mill Lake parking lot, 16345 McClure Road in Sylvan Township.

You can park there or hike or ski over from the Eddy Discovery Center.

If weather or ice conditions are questionable, contact DNR staff at 475-3170 or 475-8307 for more information.
